NaNoWriMo

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a self-assigned writing competition that takes place in the month of November.  Writers from all over the world partake in the goal of writing 50,000 words in the month of November – starting from the 1^st and ending on the 30^th. 

• A writer should not begin writing their NaNoWriMo story until November 1^st – they are, however, able to plan it out before.
• The daily goal is to write 1,667 words each day to reach the end goal. 
• Stories that have been written during the NaNoWriMo challenge have been published.
• Because of the wide geographic range of participants, there are groups established in different communities for writers to come together during November to support and encourage each other to reach the goal.
• The hosts of NaNoWriMo provide tips and tricks leading up to November, as well as words of encouragement during the month of November.

NaNoWriMo, in addition to being a fun challenge to try to accomplish, also works to create a deep sense of community with people all around the world, as everyone works towards the same goal.

Wattpad

Wattpad is an online community for writers.  The purpose of Wattpad is threefold: to provide a place to share stories, to provide a place to read others' stories, and to create a community that helps writers grow as storytellers through feedback and encouragement.  Wattpad offers a safe place for people to:

• Read stories from a wide array of genres and provide feedback if they choose;
• Post stories from various genres and gain feedback from fellow writers or avid readers;
• Partake in a number of genre-related contests;
• Gain resources and skills that could lead to having their story published. 

In addition to providing a safe space for writers to share their work online, Wattpad helps to build a sense of community where people can feel encouraged to share their writing.
